Training

At Emsworth surgery, we are involved in the training of medical students and doctors.

If you are offered an appointment with a student (There is no obligation to see him or her), you will always see a regular GP at the end of the consultation. At the end of their attachments with us, the students always report that being allowed to see “Real patients” is the best thing about their time with us.

Most of the junior doctors that we have are intending to become GPs. Others work here in four month attachments to gain a flavour of general practice, before following another branch of medicine. All are supervised by a named partner, to whom they can go for advice at all times.

Doctor First Triage

As a result of huge demand and pressures on our appointments, we have had to change the way we work.

Many of you will already have experienced our ‘Doctor First Triage’ service.

We hope to be able to offer you advice when you need it rather than just waiting for  the next appointment with your doctor.

How does it work?

By calling in or completing our form online you can request a phone call consultation with an on call doctor.

The doctor will decide with you regarding the urgency of your need.  We have found in our trials that many patients find this service useful and can prevent the need for an appointment in surgery.

If necessary you may be asked to come down to surgery straight away or offered an appointment on the day or later that week.

When Should I call rather than make an appointment?

When you feel that it is urgent to speak with a doctor.

Routine appointments are available to be booked on line via Systmonline

Cancellations

If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else.

Online  Booking

It is still possible to book online or via the phone to make appointments. As we have a huge pressure on our phone system we would be grateful for your considered use of the online booking system if possible.

We do not make urgent appointments available online as we prefer to be speak with you to ensure you get the advice you need as soon as possible.

We are taking up to 150 phone calls per day at present so please understand that we are trying hard to support you all!
